Evaluation of humic fertilizers on a sand‐based creeping bentgrass putting green

چکیده

Abstract Turfgrass with sand‐based root zones, such as golf course putting greens, are highly important economically and require intense management. However, problems often associated low nutrient retention limited microbial activity. Soil additives may increase soil biological activity, improve nitrogen (N) cycling efficiency, thus reduce fertilizer N inputs. A 2‐yr experiment was conducted on a creeping bentgrass ( Agrostis stolonifera L.) green to investigate whether humic products could activity turfgrass quality. Treatments included humic‐coated urea (HCU; 2/3 rate full rate), HCU + dispersing granules (HDG), black gypsum (BG), urea, HDG, nontreated control. Minimal differences were seen in biomass besides BG. The BG had 60% greater potentially net mineralization relative the HDG Overall, incorporating substances did not quality, cover, clipping compared alone. addition of enhanced (i.e., mineralization).

Influence of Humic Substances on Irrigation Frequency and Phosphate Absorption of Creeping Bentgrass Putting Greens

Humic substances (HS) reportedly enhance moisture retention of soil. However, no information is available as to the effects of HS on sand-based golf course putting greens. HS have acidic functional groups (COOH) that are reaction sites on the molecule. An greenhouse experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect that the acidic functional groups in humic acid, tannic acid and citric acid have ...

Moss Control in Creeping Bentgrass Putting Greens

Moss (Bryum argenteum) continues to become one of the most problematic weeds in creeping bentgrass (Agrostis palustris) putting greens. Control of moss can be approached in many different ways, including chemical applications, and cultural practices such as correcting shading or poor drainage. A study was conducted at Springdale Country Club (Springdale, Ark.) to evaluate the effectiveness of s...

Partitioning and persistence of trichlorfon and chlorpyrifos in a creeping bentgrass putting green.

Golf course putting greens typically receive high pesticide applications to meet high quality demands. Research on pesticide fate in turf ecosystems is important to better understand the potential impact of pesticide use on the environment and human health. This research was conducted to evaluate the environmental fate of two commonly used insecticides--trichlorfon (dimethyl 2,2,2-trichloro-1-h...

Creeping Bentgrass Cultivar Influences Biocontrol

Printed on recycled paper SUMMER 2001 24 A Healthy Ecosystem Inconsistent performance of biological control strategies for turfgrass disease control has limited the adoption of this technology into IPM programs. A major contributing factor to this variable performance in agricultural systems is the cultivar to which biological control organisms are applied. In a recent study, our goal was to de...

Evaluation of Phosphonate Fungicides for Control of Pythium Blight on Creeping Bentgrass and Perennial Ryegrass

Phosphonate fungicides are used by golf course managers to control Pythium diseases, suppress anthracnose basal rot, alleviate summer stress, and improve turf quality. In many areas of the northeast, phosphonate products are applied at regular intervals throughout the summer as part of a fairway and putting green management program. Currently, over a dozen phosphonate fungicides and fertilizers...
